Word of Whimsy is a design fiction project imagining a whimsical utopian society that emerged after the collapse of extreme minimalism. In this future, rigid systems and productivity-focused values have been replaced by creativity, playfulness, self-expression, and emotional connection. The project explores how these cultural values could shape the way people communicate and interact with their environment. The project centers on an experimental alphabet and fictional writing system designed specifically for this world. Chalk is the primary writing medium, making communication temporary, flexible, and personal. The alphabet follows minimal structural rules, allowing letterforms to change in scale, proportion, color, and form while maintaining basic readability. The writing system is integrated into the world through a fictional interface, making the technology and methods of communication feel natural rather than explicitly explained.
